Spilanthes Acmella: The Unknown Testosterone Superpower

Spilanthes Acmella: The Unknown Testosterone Superpower

Spilanthes acmella is an important medicinal plant, found in tropical and subtropical countries of India and South America. It is often referred to as the toothache plant because it reduces the pain associated with toothaches and can induce saliva secretion. Spilanthes acmella has a long historical use in Ayruvedic medicine.

The main researched alkaloid found in Spilanthes is Spilanthol (N-isobutylamide). This compound has been shown to possess powerful pharmacological activities including antifungal, antipyretic, local anaesthetic, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, aphrodisiac, analgesic, antimicrobial, diuretic, vasorelaxant and anti-inflammatory effects.

In this article we are going to focus on the aphrodisiac (libido enhancing), vasorelaxing (nitric oxide stimulating) and testosterone boosting benefits.

Preliminary studies on Spilanthes acmella (specifically Spilanthol) show increases in Testosterone, Leutinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) within 28 days.

Compared to Viagra (Sildenafil Citrate), Spilanthes when dosed at 50mg, 100mg and 150mg showed considerable increases in sex hormone production above base line (control).

Granted many of the current studies are in rats. However, the mechanism of action looks to be translated and anecdotally we find medicine men in South America who administer a mix of flowers and roots to increase rates of conception.

Researchers have also noted an increase in sexual frequency, ejaculation and penile erection index (PEI). In fact, 150mg per day saw a 300% increase in PEI and Viagra saw a 400% increase. Therefore, Spilanthes extract isn’t far off Viagra for erection quality and frequency.

It is important to note that some of these Viagra-like benefits that come from Spilanthes acmella, actually come from its ability to increase Nitric Oxide (NO2). This is exciting news for athletes looking to use Spilanthes prior to exercise and increase testosterone and blood flow to skeletal muscles.

In addition, Spilanthes acmella has been shown to have diuretic benefit similar to the drug furosemide. This effect was shown to last for several hours after administration and may be a welcome benefit in producing a tighter, leaner feeling for users.

The dosage for humans hasn’t been well qualified. However, Stiriti Ayur Therapies have the highest concentration of standardised Spilanthol (std. 5%) available. Products containing 300 – 600mg of the trademarked SA3X™ ingredient have seen great results with customers across the globe.

If the studies translate to humans, the way anecdotally they seem to be, then Spilanthes acmella, in particular Spilanthol, could be the next big testosterone support supplement hitting your shelves. It’s likely we will see it in combination with other herbs, vitamins and minerals for best results.
